Maximiano "Chimin" Garcia Sr.

Maximiano "Chimin" Garcia, Sr., beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather, and uncle passed away on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at his home in Brownsville, Texas, surrounded by his children and immediate family. He had celebrated his 99th birthday in May.

Chimin was born in 1922 in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to Marciana and Eligio Garcia. Chimin was a migrant field worker, worked for a manufacturing company, and spent the rest of his years doing construction work. He enjoyed sitting on the front porch watching the cars go by, working on one of his many projects in the garage, feeding the pigeons the left over flour tortillas that were made for him that morning, casting a line at the beach, drinking a beer then dancing his hear out, and spending as much time as possible with is family. Chimin will be remembered for his entertaining stories, his unflailing work ethic, his kind heart, his generous smile, and his willingness to drop everything to help his family and friends.

Chimin was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known him.

Maximiano was preceded in death by his first wife, Antonia Garcia; his second wife, Hilaria Garcia; 3 children: Paula Dimas, Julia Vasquez, and Canuto Arratia; and several nieces and nephews.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him are his children: Maximiano and his wife Rosalinda Garcia Jr., Margarita Garcia, and Guadalupe and her husband Raul Hernandez. He will also be missed by his grandchildren: Graciela and her husband Jack, Pete, Bobby and his wife Susan, Alicia, Max III and his wife Cassie, Dolores, Delia, Lydia and her husband Manuel V., Melissa and her husband Manuel L., Veronica, Claudia and her husband Alejos,. Agustin and his wife Mirna, Ernie and his wife Stephanie, Tony,m Leo, Maria, Marty and his wife Cindy, Jaime and his wife Bonnie, Terry and her husband Dane, Tonette and her husband Joe, Mike, and Troy and his wife Lori. Chimin was blessed to have 38 great-grandchildren and 37 great-great-grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.


Visitation will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2021, and continue through 9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday evening in the San Pedro Parish Hall at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 555 West St. Francis St. The Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 7, 2021, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 2645 Tulipan St. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.

Maximiano's great-grandchildren: Anthony Cantu, Alexander Cantu, Gerardo Hernandez, Thomas Sotello, Klorissa Garcia and Marisa Hernandez are honored to be serving as pallbearers for their beloved great-grandfather.

The family would like to thank Safe Haven Hospice for the services; nurses Mayra and Joyce for their care, and his primary physician, Dr. Francis Gumbel.

The Garcia family would like to request that those of you attending the services please wear your mask just to be on the safe side. We also want to advise you that food gifts such as sweet bread are not allowed at this time at the funeral home.
