Maxine McKee Garrison, 93, passed away on August 28th at her home in Los Fresnos. A longtime Valley resident, she had been an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Brownsville and numerous community and civic organizations.

Born in Cedar Vale, Kansas on January 17, 1915 to Otis W. McKee and Flavia Lemert McKee, Maxine arrived in Brownsville with her parents in 1924. She was educated locally and received her B.A. in education at University of TexasPan American in Edinburg. Maxine served the community as an elementary school teacher and lived in Brownsville until 1977, when she retired and moved to Los Fresnos.

Maxine is survived by a daughter, Meredith Dunham-Wilmot and husband Victor M. Wilmot of Bethesda, Maryland; a son, Douglas James Dunham of Alto, Georgia; four stepsons, Michael Lee Garrison, Stanley Eugene Garrison, Ronald Maurice Garrison, and Gary Lee Garrison; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two husbands, James M. Dunham and Morris Garrison; a sister, Edith M. Ellington of Kerrville, Texas; and a brother, Rolan A. McKee, of Miami, Florida.

A memorial service at the First United Methodist Church of Brownsville will be held later this year. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church, 1225 Boca Chica, Brownsville, Texas 78520 or to a charity of the donors choice.
