BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Megan Pitcock, immensely loved by her family, friends, students, and colleagues, passed away at the age of 32 on Monday, June 28, 2021.
Megan, adored daughter of Denise and Dennis Pitcock and sister of Matthew Pitcock, was a talented vocalist and music educator from the Rio Grande Valley, where she trained and received many accolades under the direction of her mother, father and Dianne Brumley. Both of her parents are long-time contributors to Texas choral education.
After graduating with her Music Education degree from UT Brownsville, Megan directed choirs in Harlingen at Vernon MS and Harlingen HS, and in Brownsville at Lopez Early College HS. She also taught private voice students across the Rio Grande Valley. As a performer, Megan sang with the “South Texas Chorale,” directed by Dr. Dianne Brumley, in “Notevole,” directed by her father, and was a founding member of “Pasión,” directed by Dr. Eric Posada. She was also a staff singer at Treasure Hills Presbyterian Church in Harlingen.
Megan was warm, caring and devilishly funny. One close colleague notes, “She had an immense passion for connecting with students. She loved and cared so hard for every kid she ever had. She always wanted students to feel loved, heard and accepted.” Megan’s amazing capacity for unconditional love, acceptance, kindness, and caring makes it impossible to provide a full list of loved ones that are deeply mourning this sudden and devastating loss. The family acknowledges everyone’s love and prayers. We know that Megan will have an uncountable number of people carrying her with them wherever they go, as she watches us all from above.
Megan was born July 11, 1988, in McAllen, Texas. Surviving are her father, Dennis Pitcock, of Loves Park, Illinois; her mother, Denise Guidry Pitcock of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Matthew Pitcock of Hutto, Texas; her paternal grandmother, Dolores Pitcock of Paris, Illinois; her maternal grandfather, Harry Guidry of San Antonio, Texas; a maternal great uncle, Shirley Guidry of Louisiana; a paternal aunt, Paula (Gary) Marrs of Paris, Illinois; maternal aunts and uncles, Michael (Jennifer) Guidry of Florida, Patty (Iraj) Esfandiari of Georgetown, Texas, and Carol Alcasey of Kaufman, Texas; and several cousins in Illinois, Texas, Missouri, Louisiana and South Africa. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Paul Pitcock of Paris, Illinois; and her maternal grandmother, Jean Guidry of San Antonio, Texas.
There will be a Celebration of Life held for Megan on Sunday, July 11, 2021, 4:00PM at First United Methodist Church, 1225 Boca Chica Boulevard, Brownsville, Texas.
