BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Monica Iris Buitureira, 59, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, entered into the glory of her eternal life on Tuesday, the 1st of April 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Monica was a remarkable person whose kindness, wisdom, and compassion touched countless lives. Her influence was profound, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Through her actions, words, and unwavering support, she inspired and uplifted those around her, creating a legacy of faith, love, and strength that will never be forgotten.
Monica was preceded in death by her son, Nicholas "Nico" Antonio Benavides; her parents, Esperanza "Pere" Hinojosa Mendez and Sgt. Roberto C. Mendez; her brothers, David Mendez and Roberto Mendez, Jr.; her mother-in-law, Maria Elena "Nena" Buitureira; and by her sister-in-law, Rosie Buitureira.
Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of 22 years, Rodrigo "Capt. Rudy" Buitureira; her children, Rico Benavidez (Amy), Bryanna Buitureira, and Bianca Buitureira; her cherished grandchildren, Brandon Rico Benavidez, Bradley Nico Benavidez, Boston Immanuel Benavidez, and Brayden Ames Benavidez; and her stepson, Steven R. Hieu (Buitureira) Bailey.
She is also survived by her loving siblings, Margie Beltran (Felipe), Yvette Rey (Juan), and Cesar Mendez (Nancy); her father-in-law, Fulgencio "Gencho" Buitureira, Sr.; and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Ofelia Avalos (Juan), Hopie Garza (Freddy), Luisa Stelly (Zeke), Imelda Vigil (Joe Haliti), Fulgencio "Gencho" Buitureira, Jr. (Vicky), Jose Antonio Buitureira (Leticia), and Luis Buitureira (Concepcion).
She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who will forever hold her in their hearts.
Honored to serve as her pallbearers will be Felipe Beltran, Roberto Beltran, Miguel Rey, Brandon Rico Benavidez, Fulgencio "Gencho" Buitureira, and Marcus Rocha.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rudy Buitureira, Rico Benavidez, Juan Rey, Bradley Nico Benavidez, Boston Immanuel Benavidez, and Brayden Ames Benavidez.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, the 7th of April 2025, between the hours of twelve noon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Monday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
Visiting hours will resume on Tuesday, the 8th of April 2025, from nine o'clock in the morning. The escorted procession will depart Darling-Mouser Funeral Home at half past one o'clock in the afternoon. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at two o'clock in the afternoon at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 555 W. St. Francis Street, Brownsville. The Rite of Committal and Interment will then follow at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.
