Olalla Garza Perales

Olalla Garza Perales, 96, a lifelong resident of Brownsville, entered into eternal life on Thursday, October 21, 2010. She was born February 13, 1914 to Adolfo Garza and Luisa Rodriguez Garza.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Martin C. Perales brothers, Damas Garza, Felix Garza, Adolfo Garza, Benito Garza, Guadalupe Garza, Urbano Garza, and Jesus Garza a stepbrother, Antonio Garza sisters, Soledad Garza Mata and Tomasa Garza Ontiveros.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lou Garza Bewley, her granddaughters, Elizabeth Olalla Loewecke Brian, Melissa Muzquiz Luis, Angela Garcia Art, her greatgrandchildren, Kristopher Hale and Katrina Olalla Loewecke, Julia, Ares and Tesa Muzquiz, Alyssa, Abriana, Audrey, and Arturo Jr. Garcia and her loyal nieces, Matilde Ninfa Guillen, Fidelfa Nena Gonzalez, Norma Nelida Ortiz, Minerva Perez, Irma Yolanda Benavides and nephews, Luis Garza, Arnoldo Garza, and Ciro Agusto Garza.

She started work at the young age of 14 selling candy at Woolworths. She worked for numerous downtown businesses including McNair Sewing Co., C.R. Anthony, Andreson Hardware and most notably for Brownsville Hardware. Customers from Brownsville Hardware sought her assistance knowing that she would locate just the right tool or help select the perfect wedding gift. She was an incredibly loyal employee.

She was a devout Catholic who lived her life as an honest, hard working member of the community. She never met a stranger and helped anyone and everyone who came across her doorstep.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a Holy Rosary at 7 p.m on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at Darling Mouser Funeral Home.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 25, 2010 at Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral, Brownsville, Texas. Interment will follow immediately after at Rose Lawn Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jesus Gonzalez, Jose Guillen, Rey Guillen, Luis Muzquiz, Amalio Perez, and Noe Ruiz.

Honorary Pallbearers include Ray Contreras, Roy Gonzalez, and Alejandro Perez.
