Olga Perez Espinosa

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Nuestra querida madre, Olga Pérez Espinosa, fue a encontrarse con Nuestro Señor el 4 de enero de 2024 a la edad de 93 años. Fue una madre maravillosa, siempre estuvo ahí cuando la necesitabamos y es amada entrañablemente por muchos familiares y amigos.

Nació el 24 de octubre de 1930 en Crystal City, Texas, hija de Rafael Pérez Salinas y María Ibarra González, pero creció en el rancho, El Amparo en México. Doña Olga aprendió los entresijos del manejo de una explotación agrícola y ganadera. Su padre le enseñó tanto el lado práctico como el comercial. Conducía camiones, tractores y llevaba los libros del rancho.

El 18 de diciembre de 1948, a la edad de 18 años, nuestra madre se casó con Francisco Espinosa Rodríguez. Nuestros padres establecieron un hogar en Las Blancas, una pequeña colonia en las afueras de Matamoros, Tamaulipas. Los niños llegaron a su casa casi de inmediato. En 1960, nuestro padre se fue a Harlingen, Texas, a trabajar para un ranchero, y nos reunimos con él unos meses después. Lamentablemente nuestra estancia en Harlingen no duró mucho. La tragedia golpeó a nuestra familia cuando nuestro padre falleció, dejando a nuestra madre viuda a la edad de 29 años con seis hijos y embarazada de nuestra hermana menor.

A lo largo de nuestra infancia, ella hizo lo imposible para mantenernos juntos, seguros, vestidos y alimentados. Algunos de sus trabajos incluían trabajar en el campo, procesar camarones, hacer tareas domésticas y cocinar para una guardería. Estaba tan comprometida con nuestra familia que una fría mañana, cuando su auto no arrancó, ella y nuestro hermano caminaron millas para llegar a trabajar en la planta procesadora de pollos de la ciudad.

Más adelante en su vida, nuestra madre regresó a nuestra casa en México para probar suerte en la agricultura. Experimentó muchas dificultades como mujer durante esos tiempos, pero su fe siempre la guió. Amaba la iglesia y, mientras estuvo en México, nuestra madre jugó un papel importante en la restauración de una antigua iglesia que nuestro padre y su familia ayudaron a construir. Impartió clases de religión para preparar a niños y adultos para los sacramentos, y si no asistían a clases, ella conducía hasta sus casas y les daba lecciones. ¡No había escapatoria!

A nuestra madre le encantaba compartir las historias de su vida y siempre estábamos asombrados por su valentía y fuerza. Las dificultades que enfrentó no le impidieron disfrutar de la vida. A nuestra madre le encantaba leer y escribir. Era una defensora de su comunidad y, a menudo, escribía a los representantes cuando no estaba de acuerdo con sus políticas. Nuestra talentosa madre tenía una hermosa voz. Le encantaba cantar y bailar. Le fascinaban las plantas y la jardinería, y le encantaba mostrárselas a todos los que la visitaban, pero teníamos que vigilarla porque a menudo salía a escondidas para cortar ramas y malas hierbas con un hacha.

¡Sus nietos eran su orgullo y alegría! Les encantaba pasar parte del verano en su rancho. ¡La falta de electricidad y agua corriente no les impidió divertirse mucho! ¡El lugar de la abuela fue el mejor!

Hay mucho más que decir sobre lo que este ángel en la tierra hizo por nosotros. Nuestra querida madre supera el significado de fe, fuerza, resiliencia, compasión, generosidad, dedicación, amor, terquedad y valentía. ¡Esta guerrera/guardián nunca permitió que la palabra imposible entrara en su mente! Con la gracia divina, el amor y la intervención de Dios, ella ayudó a nuestra familia a superar muchos momentos difíciles, ¡y aquí somos mejores personas gracias a ella!

Nuestra madre, Olga, fue precedida en la muerte por (en orden desde la fecha de muerte): su padre, Rafael Pérez Salinas, su hermano, Rafael Pérez Ibarra, su esposo, Francisco Espinosa Rodríguez, sus hermanos, Mardonio Pérez Ibarra, Juan Pérez Ibarra. , su madre, María Ibarra Pérez, su hermano, Claudio Pérez Ibarra y su cuñada, Irma Pérez Solís, su hijo, José Eduardo Espinosa Pérez, y su cuñada, Ninfa Pérez. También le precedieron en la muerte muchos miembros de la familia Espinosa.

La familia desea agradecer a las siguientes personas que ayudaron a que los servicios de nuestra madre fueran especiales: Hospital Regional del Valle: Los médicos y enfermeras fueron muy considerados con las necesidades de nuestra madre. Fueron muy corteses, pacientes y amables; Iglesia Católica St. Joseph por la misa y el servicio de entierro por permitirnos usar el salón parroquial para servir la comida después del servicio de entierro; Darling-Mouser Funeral Home por asegurarse de que nuestra madre tuviera un hermoso servicio y un comportamiento profesional y compasivo hacia todos los familiares y amigos; Cementerio Buena Vista por la especial atención al servicio de entierro de nuestra madre; A nuestra Tía Sara por estar con nosotros en cada paso del camino; A las familias Pérez Santillán y Pérez Solís por sus amables palabras de amor y aliento. BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Our beloved mother, Olga Perez Espinosa, went to meet Our Lord on Thursday, the 4th of January 2024, at half past eight o’clock in the morning. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She had many family members and friends who loved her dearly. She was born on the 24th of October 1930 and passed away on Thursday, the 4th of January 2024 at the age of ninety-three.

Our mother grew up in a ranch in Mexico named, El Amparo. She learned the ins and outs of running an agricultural and livestock farm. Her father taught her the practical and the business side of things. 

On December 18, 1948, at the age of eighteen, our mother married Francisco Espinosa Rodriguez. Our father was born on January 29, 1929, in Pawnee, Texas. Our parents made a home in a little colony called Las Blancas, outside of Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mexico. Children came into their home almost immediately. In 1960, our father went to Harlingen, Texas to work for a rancher. We joined our father a few months later. Unfortunately, our stay in Harlingen did not last long. Tragedy struck our family when our father passed away.

Our mother became a widow at the age of twenty-nine with six children and pregnant with our youngest sister. Throughout our childhood, our mother did the impossible to keep us together, safe, fed, and clothed. She worked in the fields, processing shrimp, housekeeping at hotels, cleaning houses, cooking for a day care center, where she learned the importance of good nutrition for children. One day, on a cold morning night, our mother and younger brother walked for miles to get to work at a chicken processing plant. Our resilient mother even went back to our little house in Mexico to try her hand in farming. She experienced many hardships as a woman during those times.

During her time at the ranch, our mother played an important role in restoring an old church that our father and his family had helped build when they were young. The church still stands and is being used by the local ranchers and farmers.  She would give religion classes to prepare children and adults for the sacraments. If kids or adults would not attend the classes, she would drive to their houses and give them lessons.

Her difficult life did not keep her from enjoying life. Our talented mother had a beautiful voice.

She loved to sing and dance. She loved plants and gardening. We would have to keep an eye on her because she would just decide to go outside without supervision.  She still wanted to use an axe to cut branches and weeds!

Our mother loved sharing her life stories. We were always wondering how she was able to make it through life. She would wring chicken necks easily to get them ready to cook for supper. Her grandkids learned that skill as well! When visitors came by, they would ask grandma if they could kill a chicken for supper!

Her grandchildren were her pride and joy! They loved spending part of their summer at her ranch.  The lack of electricity and running water did not keep them from having a lot of fun!  Grandma’s place was the best! 

There is so much more to tell about what this angel on earth did for us. Our dear mother has surpassed the meaning of the words, faith, strength, gumption, compassion, generosity, dedication, love, resilience, stubbornness, and fearlessness. This warrior/guardian never allowed the word impossible to enter her mind! With God’s divine grace, love, and intervention, she was able to get the family through some very difficult times!

Our mother, Olga, was preceded in death by, in order from date of death: her father, Rafael Perez Salinas; her brother, Rafael Perez Ibarra; her husband, Francisco Espinosa Rodriguez; her brothers Mardonio Perez, Juan Perez, and Claudio Perez; her sister-in-law, Irma Perez; her son, Jose Eduardo Espinosa Perez; and her sister-in-law, Ninfa Perez.

She is survived by her sister, Sara I. Perez Ibarra Rodriguez, and her sister-in-law, Francisca Perez Santillan.

Her surviving children are Francisco J. Espinosa Perez, Maria Magdalena Espinosa Perez Rodriguez, Maria de los Angeles Espinosa Perez, Ricardo Espinosa Perez, Rafael Espinosa Perez, and Maria Francisca Espinosa Perez.

She leaves behind eighteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren along with many nephews and nieces in both sides of the families:  Espinosa and Perez.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, the 10th of January 2024 between the hours of three o’clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Wednesday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 11th of January 2024 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 555 W. St Francis Street, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.

The family would like to thank the following that helped make our mother’s services special: Valley Regional Hospital: The doctors and nurses were very considerate of our mother’s needs –they were very courteous, patient and kind; St. Joseph Catholic Church for mass and interment service, and for allowing us to use the parish hall; Darling-Mouser Funeral Home for making sure that our mother had a beautiful service and the professional and compassionate demeanor towards all family members and friends; Buena Vista Burial Park for the special attention to our mother’s interment service; to our Tia Sara for being with us every step of the way; the Perez Santillan and Perez Solis families for their kind words of love and encouragement - we truly enjoyed the fellowship and delicious food sponsored by the Perez Santillan cousins; the words of love and encouragement from family members in the Espinosa Family; and the words of love and encouragement from many friends.
