Oran W. Neck Jr., 70, our beloved husband, brother, uncle and friend entered into the glory of his eternal life on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville surrounded by his loving family.
Oran was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville. He attended St. Josephs Academy graduating at the age of 15. Oran then went on to Texas Southmost College and Texas Tech University. On Easter Sunday of 1963, Oran married the love of his life, Elsa Micaela Mickey Martinez.
Oran was a proud veteran having served our country in the U. S. Army. After his discharge, Oran continued his career in federal government by serving as an agent with the U. S. Border Patrol stationed here in Brownsville. Oran then joined the U. S. Customs Service where he served as a sky marshal in Honolulu, HI and Tucson, AZ District Patrol Director in Nogales Deputy Asst. Regional Commissioner in New Orleans Asst. Regional Commissioner EnforcementNew Orleans and lastly as the Resident Agent in Charge here in Brownsville. Oran had a stellar career with Customs under his supervision countless high profile crimes were solved and numerous criminal organizations were dismantled.
After retiring from the federal government in 1992, Oran Mickey spent some time travelling and fishing in Arroyo City before deciding to start a concession business. Their company, Ormic Concessions, Inc., is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, selling Dippin Dots Ice Cream and a variety of delicious treats from Mickeys Grill at major fairs and carnivals across the United States.
Oran was also an influential member of Charro Days Fiesta, Inc. and served as President for several years before being elected as an Honorary Life Director. Oran also loved reading, entertaining, and listening to his large assortment of mariachi music. Oran was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known him.
Oran was preceded in death by his parents, Laura and Oran W. Neck Sr., and a sister, Laura.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him is his loving wife of 51 years Elsa Micaela Mickey Neck two brothers, Thomas and John Neck and numerous nieces, nephews, friends and other extended family members.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2014, in the West Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. The Liturgical Funeral Service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 602 E. Elizabeth St. All services will conclude after the Mass and in accordance with Orans wishes, cremation will follow.
Honored to be serving as Orans pallbearers are John Patriarca, Rene Lerma, Robert Gracia, Joseph Padalino, Henry LeVrier and Oscar Gonzalez.
Honorary pallbearers will be Thomas and John Neck, Bradley Boreaux, Jerry Padalino, Leonard Martin and Neil Lageman.
Committal services for Orans cremated remains will be at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at Buena Vista Burial Park. The American Legion Funeral Honor Guard will render Military honors at the graveside.
The family would like to thank the staffs at both Valley Baptist and Valley Regional Medical Centers in Brownsville, the doctors and staff at the Heart Clinic, and all the caregivers who assisted in providing Oran with the best possible care.
