Oretha Ann Hewitt Chapman, 73, passed away on February 3, 2013. She was born in Nocona, Texas, where she spent the majority of her life before retiring to South Padre Island, Texas, with her husband, Melvin Chapman.
Ann was a member of the Church of Christ and was on the Board of Directors for the Gladys Porter Zoo, and past president of the Port Isabel Animal Shelter. Through her love of animals, she went on zoo trips to the Galapagos Islands, African Safaris, and was Chairman for many animal benefits. Ann was also very active in her church.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Marie Hewitt husband, Jack Howard of Nocona and granddaughter, Danielle LeBlanc.
Ann is survived by her husband, Melvin Chapman a son, Dr. Stewart Chapman and wife Karen her daughters: Melanie Howington and husband Robert, Kimberly Corbin and husband Ed, and Cheryl Reynolds ten grandchildren, five greatgrandchildren, and other extended family members.
The family will receive friends this evening, Monday, Feb. 4th, 2013 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the West Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the Nocona Church of Christ, 311 Cooke St., Nocona, Texas. Committal services will follow at Nocona Cemetery in Nocona, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations in Anns name to the Gladys Porter Zoo, 500 Ringgold St., Brownsville, Texas 78520 or the Brownsville Northside Church of Christ Building Fund, 5800 Stagecoach Trail, Brownsville, Texas 78526.
