Oscar G. Garza, 78, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend, entered into the glory of his eternal life on Friday, January 7, 2011, surrounded by his loving family.
Oscar a native of Mission, Texas, had been a resident of Brownsville for a number of years. After graduating from college, he worked as a History teacher at Brownsville High School. After completing his Masters Degree, he went on to work for over 25 years as a program director with the Texas Dept. of Health. After retirement, he returned to the classroom as a substitute teacher with the BISD working frequently at Vela Middle School.
A devout Catholic, Mr. Garza was a parishioner at St. Marys Catholic Church where he was a member of the Mens Club and also a member of the Hospitality Committee serving as an usher at the 10:45 am Mass. He will be dearly missed by all those fortunate to have known him.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, Amadeo and Rebecca Garza.
Left to eternally treasure his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Elia G. Garza his children: Pearl and her husband Adolfo Beltran and their daughters, Angela, Jennifer, and Vanessa Oscar G. Garza Jr., David X. Garza and his wife Glenda and their daughters, Natalie and Valerie Bea Garza, Jaime Garza and his wife Elvia and their children, Stephanie and Jaime Jr. Patricia and her husband Chris Armitage and their children, Andie and Cole and Jessica and her husband David Garza III. He will also be missed by his brother, Jose I. Eufemia Nena Garza his sisters: Elva G. Ramiro Jackson, Hermelinda G. Crum, and Antonio Teresa Casso numerous nieces and nephews, extended family members, and many friends.
Visitation will begin at 12 noon and continue through 5 p.m., on Sunday, January 9, 2011 with the recitation of the rosary at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, January 9th in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Resurrection will be at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, January 10, 2011 at Mary Mother of the Church St. Marys, 1914 Barnard Rd., Brownsville, Tx.
Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Oscars sons, sonsinlaw, and grandsons are honored to be serving as his pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his brother and brothersinlaw.
