Oscar Garza Torres, 72, our beloved husband, father, fatherinlaw, brother, grandfather, greatgrandfather, uncle, and friend entered into the glory of his eternal life on Saturday, September 10, 2011 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville surrounded by his loving family after a valiant battle with lung cancer.
Born on October 31, 1938 in Nuevo Padilla, Tamaulipas, Mexico, Mr. Torres had been a resident of Brownsville for numerous years.
A welder by trade, Mr. Torres talent can be seen and appreciated by all those who drive down Price Road in front of Homer Hanna High School formerly Brownsville High School in the B that stands in front of the school.
Mr. Torres was a true example and genuinely personified the meaning of the word friend. He was a friend to one and all and was always there ready to lend a helping hand and do whatever he could for his friends. He gave his all for his family and friends. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Carmen Torres a sister, Albeza Torres de Castilleja and two brothersinlaw, Arnulfo Ramos and Ramiro Trevio.
Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him is his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Dora Velia Trevio de Torres his children: Gerardo Jerry Maricarmen Torres, Angelica Angie Jesse Morales, Oscar Carmen Torres Jr., Ramiro Claudia Torres, Humberto Laura Torres, and Raul Erica Torres his grandchildren: Jessica Hector Leal, Myra Yesenia Morales, Natalia Torres, Oscar Torres III, Valeria Torres, Kristina Lizette Morales, Yzlattie Torres, Alondra Torres, Ramiro Torres Jr., and Humberto Torres Jr. three greatgrandchildren: Hector Andrew, Oscar Gabriel, and Harley Jacob Leal. He will also be missed by his brother, Arquimedes Ofelia Torres his sisters: Antonia Arnulfo Ramos, Angelica Valentin Cortez, and Juanita Joel Guajardo and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Visitation will begin at 12 Noon and continue through 9 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2011 in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. this evening at DarlingMouser. The funeral service will be at 12 Noon on Monday, September 12, 2011 at Sendas de Vida Life Center, 3181 E. Ruben M. Torres Sr. Blvd. FM 802. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Mr. Torres sons: Jerry, Oscar Jr., Ramiro, Humberto, and Raul together with his soninlaw, Jesse are honored to be serving as his pallbearers.
