BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Oscar C. Tamez entered into eternal rest on Saturday, the 25th of January 2025 in the comfort of his daughter's Brownsville residence surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years of age.
Oscar was born on November 25, 1938 in Brownsville, Texas, son of the late Salvador Tamez and Elena Valdez Tamez. He proudly served in the United States Army and National Guard and worked as a skilled welder until his retirement. A devout Catholic, Oscar was a faithful parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Brownsville. He enjoyed watching TV and was an avid sports fanatic, from college football to cherring on the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, and the Houston Astros.
Preceding Oscar in death was his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Josefa "Chepa" Urbano Tamez on July 31, 2024; his son, Omar Carlos Tamez on August 26, 2004; his parents, Salvador Tamez and Elena Valdez Tamez; and his brother, Salvador Tamez.
Survivors include his children Oscar Tamez, Jr. (Myra), Griselda "Chris" Gonzalez (Javier), and Claudia Uribe (Joey); his grandchildren Oscar Tamez III, Aisha Tamez, Dominic Tamez, Javier Gonzalez, Jr. (Jessica), Byzeda Tamez, Andrew Uribe, and Hailey Uribe; and his siblings Lionel Tamez (Ines) and George Tamez (Mary); in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, the 2nd of February 2025 between the hours of two o’clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o'clock Sunday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at twelve noon on Monday, the 3rd of February 2025 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1914 Barnard Road, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.
