Patricia Rae Cantu

Patricia Rae “Tricia” Cantu, beloved daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, died September 21, 2021, after a courageous, 3½-year battle against cancer. She was 51.

Mrs. Cantu was born in Brownsville to Raeford and Lucila C. Etheridge. She graduated from Pace High School in 1988, where she was first chair in alto bass clarinet in the Pace Vikings Marching Band. She attended Texas Southmost College.

She was employed by the Cameron County Engineering Department as a right-of-way clerk. Previously, she worked at Kids Corner Child Development Center, the Texas Department of Human Services, Benavides Driving School and the Cameron County Clerk’s Office.

In 1989, she married Margarito Guzman Jr. at El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church, of which she was a member.

Mrs. Cantu was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents, Juan E. and Esther C. Cornejo.

She is survived by her husband, Felipe Cantu, whom she married on Aug. 4, 2018; her daughter, Pricilla Rae Rosales (Rosalio); her son, Jonathan Ray Guzman; her mother, Lucila C. Etheridge; her brother, Raeford Etheridge Jr.; her grandchildren, Kaydence Rae Rosales and Logan Bryce Rosales; her nephew, Michael Etheridge; her niece, Mercedes Etheridge; her aunts, Sofia C. Benavides and Azenett Cornejo; her uncle, Juan Jose Cornejo (Maggie); her mother-in-law, Maria H. Cantu; and several cousins.

Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, September 26, at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home, 945 Palm Blvd. A prayer service will take place at 7 p.m. led by the Reverends Santos Ortiz Jr.

Services will take place at noon Monday, September 27, at El Buen Pastor United Methodist Church, 435 Boca Chica Blvd., with the Reverends Santos Ortiz Jr. and Pedro Hinojosa officiating. Burial will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Blvd.

Serving as pallbearers will be Rosalio Rosales, Jesus Mata Jr., Michael Mata, Arnold Hinojosa, Alex Ruiz and Kevin Eguia.

Honorary pallbearers are Sofia Garcia, Juan Jose Cornejo, Louis Sorola, Ben Worsham, Pete Sepulveda and John Wood.
