BROWNSVILLE, TX. - It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our dear Pedro “Pete” Sanchez, Jr. He gained his wings and ascended into the kingdom of heaven on Friday, the 14th of June 2024 after a rich life of service and kindness at the age of forty-eight. He spent his final moments with his loving and devoted family by his side.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of nearly twenty-one years, Maria Arizpe-Sanchez; their children, Camila Sanchez and Pedro Sanchez III, who were his universe; his loving parents, Pedro Sr. and Maria Teresa Sanchez; his siblings, Sergio Alejandro Sanchez, Luis Felipe Sanchez (Tracy Leigh), and Mildred Ayerim Sanchez (John Christian Satterfield); his parents-in-law, Reynaldo and Maria Oralia Arizpe; his brothers-in-law, Reynaldo Arizpe, Jr. (Ruth), Renato Arizpe (Linda Carolina), Jose Arizpe (Myrlanda), and Daniel Arizpe (Blanca Liliana Delgado); in addition to fifteen nieces and nephews along with three grand nieces and nephews.
Born on May 2, 1976 in Brownsville, Texas, his quick wit, kindness and comedic heart resonated with everyone who he encountered. He attended Gladys Porter High School and graduated with his class in 1994. He then attended and graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts in 1998. He later went on to receive his Master of Education in 2008 from The University of Texas at Austin.
He began his professional chapter as a teacher in San Benito. He then moved to Austin to teach English at Reagan High School and later served as an Assistant Principal. He further served as an Assistant Principal at Martin and Burnet Middle Schools. He then returned to the Rio Grande Valley as a Principal for Coakley Middle School in Harlingen and remained in that role for eleven years. He then served as Administrator for the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District in their Federal Grants Department. Ultimately, he completed twenty-four years in education as a teacher and administrator in central and south Texas. Pedro devoted his life’s work to nurturing and educating our youth. He will forever be remembered as a pillar and mentor to countless students and colleagues.
To know Pedro is to have known his generosity, his love for others, and his infectious laughter. Pedro left an undeniable mark on all the lives he touched. His legacy and memories will live on through all. May we live life as fully as he did.
