Petrita Esparza Tamez

MANOR, TX. – On the 30th of August 2023, Petrita “Tita” Esparza Tamez got her wings and went to walk with the angels. She passed away peacefully surrounded by love near and far after battling cancer for almost four years. She was sixty-nine years old.

Born in Brownsville, Texas, Tita attended Villa Maria High School and was a part of the graduating Class of 1972. She went on to get her degree in Education at Pan American University - Brownsville. She was a lifelong educator who taught elementary in Brownsville ISD, Austin ISD, and Los Fresnos CISD. Tita retired after thirty years and joined BARSEA (Brownsville Area Retired School Employees Association). She served as president of BARSEA for four years. Tita had the biggest heart and most memorable smile. She was fearless and independent yet sensitive and compassionate. She loved nature, adventures, sunrise and sunsets, and above all… her family. She will forever be remembered by those that knew her.

She is preceded in death by her father, Romeo Esparza, and her daughter, Kris Ann Tamez.

She is survived by her mother, Olivia Esparza Munoz; her daughters, Nissa (Robert) Hotckiss and Laura Tamez; their father, Robert Tamez; and her beloved granddaughters, Samantha Goebler and Sophia Hotchkiss. She is also survived by her siblings Romeo (Bea) Esparza II, Libby Gonzales, Willie (Belinda) Esparza, and Liza (Mike) Leinart; in addition to several nieces and nephews as well as grandnieces and grandnephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, the 23rd of September 2023 between the hours of three o’clock in the afternoon and five o'clock in the evening, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at five o'clock within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
