Prajedes G. Garcia, 83, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather entered into the glory of his eternal life on Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Solara Hospital in Brownsville.
A native and lifetime resident of Brownsville, P.G., as he was known to all, was a veteran having served his country during WW II as a Tech Sergeant. He was a Marksman Rifleman and served in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and was in Bastogn and the Battle of the Bulge. He was the recipient of the American Theater Campaign Medal., EAME Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, a Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. P.G. was a wonderful cook and he thoroughly enjoyed putting on a fantastic spread of food for any occasion but especially for all the holidays. He loved fishing at Boca Chica Beach with his family. He was a simple man who was devoted to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all those fortunate to have known him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Santos Garcia, his brother Ramiro G. Gomez, and his grandsons Joey Lopez and Prajedes Garcia, III.
Left behind to eternally treasure his memory is his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Aurora Garcia; his children: Anita Federico Trevio Ramirez, Prajedes Marina Jr., Rogerio Esther, Aurora G. Taylor, Frances G. Valentin Mata, and Tabatha G. Barron; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. and continue through 9 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2008 in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. this evening. The Mass of Christian Resurrection is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, April 15, 2008 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2405 E. Tyler St. The time for the Mass has not yet been confirmed; please call the funeral home to obtain this information. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. John Taylor, Rogerio Garcia, Jr., Valentin Mata, Jr., Valentin Collazo, Billy Maxwell, and Valentin Mata, Sr., are honored to be serving as P.G.s pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his brothers: Manuel G. Garcia, Pedro G. Garcia, and Ernesto G. Garcia.
The American Legion Post 43 Honor Guard under the direction of Commander Raul Leal will provide military honors at the graveside.
