Rafaela "Fela" C. Perez

Rafaela C. Perez, 88, beloved mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and sister, entered into the glory of her eternal life on Monday, July 11, 2011 at her residence in Los Fresnos, Texas surrounded by her loving family.

Rafaela was born in Brownsville on October 24, 1922 to Felipe Cantu and Elvira Rodriguez Cantu. In 1960, she and her husband Nicolas Perez owned and operated several fruit stands in downtown Brownsville. In 1978, she opened La Mexicana Fabrics which was open until 1992.

Rafaela was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who gave her all for her family. She was a wonderful cook and she was well known for her delicious apple pies. She loved to crochet and crocheted a blanket for each of her children and several of her grandchildren as well. Rafaela will be profoundly missed by all those who loved and knew her.

Rafael was preceded in death by her parents her husband, Nicolas C. Perez a daughter, Irma Sylvia Perez two brothers and three sisters.

Left to eternally treasure her memory are her children: Rosario Perez, Elvira P. Garcia, Nick Rosa Perez Jr., Corina Almquist, Norma Jose Luis Flores, Eddie Patty Perez, Maria Koko Ruben Perez, and Hilaria Rosa Victor Arroyo 30 grandchildren, 46 greatgrandchildren, 3 plus one on the way greatgreatgrandchildren 1 brother, Felipe Cantu, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in the evening. Visitation will resume at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 14 and continue through 1:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 2255 Southmost Road.

Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. Rafaelas grandsons are honored to be serving as pallbearers for their beloved grandmother. The remaining grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
