BROWNSVILLE, TX. - It is with deep sadness to announce that Ramiro Lerma, Jr. has reached the end of his road on Wednesday, the 15th of March 2023, leaving an amazing legacy behind him. He was eighty-five years of age.
Ramiro Lerma, Jr. was born in Brownsville, Texas on July 30, 1937, son of the late Ramiro Lerma, Sr. and Maria Saenz Paredes. His youth was highlighted as a dedicated U.S. Marine. He later served forty-three years as a Civil Servant U.S. Letter Carrier with the United States Postal Service and proud Union Member.
Ramiro spent his life serving God and the Church. He became a loyal and productive Deacon for the historic Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana in Houston, Texas. During the 1980s, he was instrumental in reaching out to the Salvadorian asylum seeking community by organizing a church-based mission to help those families with nowhere to go. At times, Ramiro opened his own private home to those most in need.
His most ambitious goal, at seventy-five years of age, was to start college utilizing his soon to expire G.I. Bill. A Special Thanks to Nora Bard and Veterans Upward Bound at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley for her patience and commitment in helping get Ramiro through the challenges college had to offer.
Most of all, Ramiro Lerma, Jr. was a loving, humble, hard-working Christian man that is, without a doubt, in possession of a first-class ticket to heaven.
Preceding Ramiro in death was his loving mother, Maria Saenz Paredes, and his father, Ramiro Lerma, Sr.
Survivors include his children Jorge Dionicio Lerma (Nora), Angie Lerma, Mary Solis (Noel), and Ramiro Lerma III (Becky); and the mother of his children, Rosa Torres Gonzalez. He was also the proud and loving grandfather of seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, the 19th of March 2023 between the hours of three o’clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with a prayer service to begin at six o'clock Sunday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
Visiting hours will resume on Monday, the 20th of March 2023 between the hours of ten o’clock in the morning and twelve noon. A Graveside Service with military honors will immediately follow, via an escorted procession, at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4464 Old Port Isabel Road, Brownsville.
Honored to serve as his pallbearers are Jorge Ramiro Lerma, Justin Levi Stover, Keith Parker Stover, Noel H. Solis III, Oscar Torres, and Roberto Berlanga, Jr.
Honorary pallbearer will be Nora Bard.
