BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Raymond E. Cosme, 76, loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother from Brownsville, Texas passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2020 in the comfort of his home surrounded by family.
Ray was born in San Antonio, Texas on August 8, 1944 to Roman and Maria Antonia Cosme. He took on the responsibilities of a father early in life, finished high school, and began training to be a welder. This led to a climbing career in Project Management building oil rigs in the Port of Brownsville until his retirement.
Ray's passions were for travel, shopping for real estate, watching baseball, and above all spending time with his family and recording every moment on tape. He enjoyed the thrill of a challenge - a natural statistician always mentally crunching numbers who often tried to beat the odds in Vegas or out-math his passengers when on a road trip. His travel dreams and story recollections always included his family and friends. He was an honest, compassionate, evenkeeled, charismatic person who was always willing to lend a hand; faithfully there for anyone. He had a great sense of humor and loved music - you could always catch him singing or humming a tune. He had a can-do positive attitude, was very encouraging and never gave bad advice after carefully analyzing the playing field; a true leader by example who would never ask you to do anything he himself would not do.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roman Cosme; his mother, Maria Antonia Cosme; and by his sisters Florence Amigleo, Mary Ann Garza, and Rose Ann Burchardt.
He is survived by his loving wife, Juanita M. Cosme; his children: Raymond V. Cosme (Anabel), Gabriel J. Cosme (Becky), Christina Ruthardt (Kenneth), Erica Cosme Stockton (Cody), and James D. Cosme (Elizabeth); his grandchildren: Jacob Cosme (Nohemi), Brianna, Lyla Denise, and Aleister James Cosme; his sisters, Mona Elkin (Marv) and Tommie Ramon (Rudy); his brother, Roy Cosme (Marc); and by his loyal pet, Toby.
