Absent from the body present with the Lord. Today, December 20, 2007, Rev. LeRoy Frederick Metzger Sr. graduated to his heavenly home. Roy was born September 21, 1916 to William Frederick and Charolette Victoria Mott Metzger on Long Island, New York. He was one of thirteen children. He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings except for Lillian Lutz of New York, his wife of 58 years, Ruth Marie Rowland Metzger 8706 and by a daughter Lorraine Claire Aguilar 092393. He is survived by his children, Leroy Jr. Tammy and Barbara Larry Duffy both of New York, Mabel Agustin Gomez, Michael Leeza Metzger, Wilhelmina Steve Cody, William Sandra, Jeff Fela Metzger, Joe Aguilar and Family, 37 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Dad will be missed greatly. He loved life and he loved the Lord Jesus. His children and great-grandchildren where his pride and joy. He wanted them all to know and have the love of Jesus and to know where they would spend their afterlife. Roy and Ruth came to Texas in 1959. They left New York to serve the Lord as Faith Missionaries with 5 children and one soon added in 1962. God truly blessed him and his faithfulness. He got up at 3a.m., for many years to go get food donations to give out to the needy families that came to the mission and to those in the community. He and Ruth had a mission for almost 30 years in Brownsville where they served a hot meal and gave out food and clothes to those in need. The best food the people received was the word of God and his saving grace. He loved to help others and knew no stranger. The mission work lead them and us throughout Mexico sharing the love of Jesus, through preaching and film ministry. One of his favorite places was Veracruz, MX. It was truly an experience being there as children and learning about having and not having next to the many people we worked with in Mexico. There are several missions that are still active in spreading the word of God in Mexico that dad had a hand in starting. One of their favorite projects was the Christmas Bags for the families in Mexico food for the adults, candy and toys for the children. Children always had a special place in their hearts. Even as he lay sick in the hospital, he wanted to know what was going on with Christmas this year. We are happy to report that the Christmas program went well. Many families and children were served last week at the mission in Matamoros, MX. He also enjoyed writing poems had written over 100 of them, a good laugh, making others happy, and teasing and winking at the nurses and staff at Valley Baptist Harlingen MICU Unit. We owe special thanks for all who had a part in his care in the long months that he was there. A special thanks to Leeze Metzger, for the long hours she put in at the hospital so the rest of us could continue with our everyday lives jobs. Our prayer for you today, is if any of you do not know Christ as your Savior that you will seek to do so today.
