BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Reynaldo Herrera, affectionately known as Rey, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, the 14th of August 2022 in the comfort of his Brownsville residence surrounded by his loving family. He was eighty-one years of age.
Rey was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on June 10, 1941, son of the late Felix and Virginia Alvarado Herrera. Upon graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served both actively and in the Naval Reserve for twenty years until his retirement. While in the reserve, Rey advanced his education and obtained his bachelor’s degree from Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas. He then went on to earn his Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas.
Rey worked in finance with the Brownsville Independent School District for approximately twenty-five years. Upon his retirement with the BISD in 1997, he went on to work for the Brownsville Teacher’s Credit Union for the following ten years.
A devout Catholic, Rey was an avid parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church where he participated in the food bank and numerous church functions. True to his faith, Rey was patient, humble, and always maintained a positive attitude towards life. Through his kindness, he was charitable towards others, always placing himself second to anybody in need. Rey enjoyed spending time with his family whom he loved so dearly.
In his spare time, Rey was involved with the Serra Club, Lions Club, and was a past member of the American Legion. Some of his other pastimes included watering his yard, watching sports, and traveling the world.
Preceding Rey in death was his wife, Gloria Herrera; his parents, Felix and Virginia A. Herrera; and his brothers Felix Herrera, Roger Herrera (Viola), and Jesse Herrera (Ana +).
Survivors include his wife, Maria Luisa C. Herrera; his daughters Corina H. Campos (Jorge), Anna Herrera (Marco Hinojosa), and Clarisa Farrar (David); step-daughters Laura Martinez (Ruben Franco), Carmen M.
