Ricardo Gómez Zamora, of Brownsville, Texas, passed into the hands of our Lord, on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, on Feb. 18, 1932, to Leonides Gómez Garcia and Jacinta Zamora. Ricardo is survived by his wife of 60 years, Maria B. Gómez and their four children, Ricardo (Rosie) Gómez Jr., Leonides (Hilda) Gómez, Mary "Nina" G. (Jesus) Lopez, and Alma L. (Samuel) Carrancho. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, a brother Luis (Paula) Gómez and numerous other family members. The family is especially grateful to Hospice nurse Carlos Lape and caretakers, Emilia, Luci, and Delia.
As a Veteran, Ricardo served our country proudly in the Korean War and will be buried with military honors. Ricardo loved and enjoyed spending time with his family and always maintained that success in life was best achieved through hard work and dedication.
Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1st and continue through 8:00 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. this evening in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2nd at Immaculate Conception Cathedral, 1218 E. Jefferson St. in Brownsville, Texas. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Dr. Richard Gómez Jr., Dr. Leonides Gómez, Ricardo Gómez III, Leonides Gómez Jr., Nicolas Lopez and Luis Gómez Jr. will serve as pallbearers. Luis Gómez and Ricardo Ramirez will be honorary pallbearers.
