Robbie was born on January 2, 1930 in San Antonio, Texas, daughter of Jefferson Massie Stewart and Susan Frances Burns Stewart. She grew up in Coy City, Texas and went to Karnes City High School. Upon graduation, she attended Baylor University in Waco, Texas where she completed a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She began working for the gas company in Waco performing cooking demonstrations. While working there, she met her first husband, B. J. Burton. Shortly after their wedding, they were stationed by the U.S. Navy in Mare Island, California. In 1954, their first child, Brad Burton, was born in Vallejo, California. After their time in California, they settled in San Antonio, Texas. It was here that their second child, Leslyn Burton, was born in 1957. Robbie remarried to Ernest Meyers in 1967. It was then she realized her calling to become a school teacher. She attended Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio to obtain her teaching certificate. Her first assignment was at Callahan Road Elementary School in San Antonio. Robbie and Ernest were relocated to Brownsville, Texas in 1970 due to his job with the U. S. Customs Service. She began teaching at El Jardin Elementary School and later obtained her certification to teach special education. She worked as a special education teacher at Faulk Intermediate School until she retired in 1997. Robbie was truly dedicated to her students’ success.

Robbie was confirmed in the Episcopal Church in 1991. She was an active member of the Altar Guild at the Church of the Advent, Episcopal. She loved her church and church family, dearly. She was also a member and director in the Charro Days Fiesta. She enjoyed staffing the Charro Days floats as the Chairman of the Personnel Committee. She was a member of the Pan American Round Table II and The Learner’s Club. After retirement, Robbie devoted her time to The Brownsville Historical Association. There, she served for a time on the Board of Directors and was able to pursue one of her passions of studying history. Robbie was an avid reader, and master of crossword puzzles and the DVR. Robbie’s true passion was her love for the Lord, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
