Robert Earl Albers, 87, of Brownsville, Texas died at his home Friday, May 8, 2009.
He was born in Toledo, Ohio on January 31, 1922. After graduating from high school in Charleston, Illinois, he attended Western Illinois University for two years.
Then, in 1943 he volunteered to serve in the U. S. Nay. While in the Navy he was in tower school in Corpus Christi, Texas.
In 1944 he married Bette Sherrick, whom he had met while in college. When he was discharged from the Navy, he became an air traffic controller. He worked at Bunker Hill, Indiana, St. Louis, Missouri, Walce Island, and Honolulu, Hawaii.
In 1974 he retired from the FAA and moved to Brownsville, Texas largely because he had liked south Texas while in tower school.
In 2004, his wife Bette passed away. On May 13, 2008 he married Mayra Lizeth Del Angel of Matamoros, Tamps; Mexico.
Mr. Albers is survived by his wife, Mayra and four daughters, Ann Kelly of Bend, Oregon, Juanita Steiger of Nashville, Tennessee, Rebecca Darling of Greenup, Illinois and Elaine Albers of Stockton, California. Also surviving are five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Albers will be missed by his family, friends, and neighbors. A memorial open house will be held from 2 p.m. to 4p.m., on Saturday, May 16, at his home at 4907 Southmost Rd., Brownsville.
