Robert Paul Gilmore Jr., age 82, beloved husband and best friend to Joanne, dearest father to Debbie and Carmela and treasured friend of many, started his next journey on Monday, August 1, 2011. By his side was his wife Joanne. He married his sweetheart in 1950 they loved and enjoyed each other for nearly sixtyone years. Throughout those years his greatest joy was his family.
Paul was born in Brownsville on October 14, 1928, to Robert Paul Gilmore and Helen Crowe Gilmore. He was a South Texas boy who loved best to be under the big Texas sky. His family and friends remember a man with a wicked twinkle in his blue eyes, a man of few words, a man of integrity. Paul was as steady, as true, as the South Texas land that he farmed.
He is preceded in death by his cherished daughters, Debbie Brown and Carmela Gilmore his sister, Gail Doffing and his brother, Charles Gilmore his nephews, Charles Pye and Darek Paul Hamilton and, his niece, Mary Gail Pye Wilson. He is survived by his wife Joanne his sister, Mary Jane Tibbets Leonard of Arlington, TX his sisterinlaw, Grace Gilmore of South Padre Island three nieces: Sharon Kohler Dick of Plano, TX Tracey Bruce Lindsay of Austin, TX Carol Gilmore Broadland Steve of Austin, TX his nephew, Robert Gilmore Carla of Milwaukee, WI and, his soninlaw, Greg Brown of Houston, TX. Paul is also survived by his brotherinlaw and sisterinlaw, Carl and Tres Hamilton of Sharyland, TX and niece, Keri Gonzalez Ren of Sharyland, TX.
Services will be held at 4:00 pm, Friday, August 5, at the Church of the Advent Episcopal, 104 West Elizabeth Street, Brownsville, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Pauls name may be made to the Episcopal Day School or a charity of your choice.
