Roberta "Bobbie" Joy Saldivar

Roberta Joy Bobbie Saldivar, 65, our beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and friend entered into the glory of her eternal life with the Lord on Monday, August 22, 2011 at her residence surrounded by her loving family after a brief but valiant fight against pancreatic cancer.

Bobbie as she was affectionately known to all, was a native and lifetime resident of Brownsville having been born here on July 8, 1946. She was a graduate of Brownsville High School Class of 1965. She attended Texas Southmost College. On September 29, 1967, she married the love of her life, Gustavo M. Saldivar, and raised 4 daughters, which she claimed was her greatest accomplishment.

She began volunteering at the Brownsville Herald right after high school. She eventually made the Herald her home away from home after working there 39 years. She retired in June of 2007 as Production Manager. She was actively involved in education as a C. A. R. E. Partner at Clearwater and Ortiz Elementary. Upon retirement she volunteered as a board member at Valley Federal Credit Union.

In her youth, she enjoyed bowling, dancing, going to the movies, and being with her friends. She was most fulfilled when in the presence of her family and friends. She enjoyed visiting with her friends, gardening, fishing, hunting, camping, and going on short trips with her husband, family, and friends.
Everyone who really knew her would agree that Bobbie was a rare jewel. She loved purely and unconditionally, cared with all her heart, and served everyone without ever expecting anything in return.

It was evident to everyone who knew Bobbie that she was a woman who had a deep faith, trust, and love in the Lord. These three qualities helped Bobbie to deal with her illness these past three months. Bobbie was a woman who was deeply loved and she will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known her and all those whose lives she touched in her 65 years on this earth.

She is preceded in death by her daddy, Jesse W. Sloss Sr. her maternal grandparents, C. V. and Natalia P. Hinojosa her paternal grandmother, Anita Longoria her motherinlaw, Joaquina Medina Saldivar and a stepbrother, Jesse W. Sloss Jr.

Bobbie is survived by her husband of 43 years, Gustavo M. Saldivar her four daughters, Rebecca Joy Jorge Robles, Roberta Ann Stephen L. Jr. Alvarez, Roxana Roxie Marie Betancourt, Raquel Michele Marco Garza her mother, Hortencia Tencha Sloss her father, Fernando Solis of Albany, GA ten grandchildren: Jessica Marie Rudy III Marks, Stephanie Lauren Alvarez, Justin Daniel Robles, Samantha Leslie Alvarez, Jurnee Michele Robles, Jacqueline Ann Robles, Rhyen Gus Betancourt, Esteban Leonardo Alvarez III, Mia Micahela Garza, and Paulo Amadeo Garza and two greatgrandchildren: Christian Isaiah Robles and Madison Nicole Marks. She will also be missed by her stepsisters: Elsie Ireland of La Feria, Sylvia Sloss of Harlingen, Rose Marie De Los Santos of San Benito, and Rose Lee Dorsey of Alamo her halfsister, Julie Solis and her halfbrother, Santy Solis both of Albany, Georgia.
