BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Rodolfo “Rudy” Armendariz entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, the 4th of February 2025 in Harlingen, Texas with his nephew Romeo H. Armendariz by his side. He was 93 years of age.
Rudy was born on November 14, 1931 in Rosenberg, Texas, son of the late David Armendariz and Jesusa Castaneda.
Rudy’s father was a section foreman for the Santa Fe Railroad Region out of Rosenberg and his mother a housewife. Rudy and his brothers started their school years in Rosenberg.
Preceding Rudy in death are his beloved wife, Ofelia; his parents, David Armendariz and Jesusa Castaneda Armendariz; and his brothers, Reynaldo Armendariz and Ramiro Armendariz.
Rudy cherished is collection of old coins, a collection that he passed on to his nephew Romeo. A devout Catholic, he was a parishioner of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral, serving as a greeter and alms collector.
Rudy enjoyed his work for Cameron County as a toll booth collector, retiring after 18 years.
Following a serious fall at his home, Rudy was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center, transitioning to the Sun Valley Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Harlingen, Texas. Our family wishes to express our gratitude to the staff, nurses, and doctors from Sun Valley for their support and care.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, the 7th of February 2025 beginning at nine o’clock in the morning, with the recitation of the holy rosary lead by the Catholic Daughters to begin at eleven o'clock in the morning within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. A Chapel Service will commence at twelve noon, with Fr. Nicholas Harding officiating. Interment will then follow at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville, where Rudy will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Ofelia.
Honored to serve as his pallbearers are Robert, David, and George Kidd, who Rudy considered his grandchildren; Dianna Armendariz, and Christy and her husband, Phil Gawenda.
