Roy Williams Jr., 85, affectionately known as Buster entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville.
Roy was born in 1926 in Orange, TX. He was a graduate of Rockdale High School. He then served his country during WW II on the USS Tennessee and was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade. Upon completing his tour of duty, he continued his education at Mexico City College receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree. He obtained his Masters Degree in 1962 from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a life member of the ExStudents Association.
Roy retired from the State of Texas Health Dept. as Chief Sanitarian and Director of Environmental Health in 1984. He also held several state and federal positions which included: Deputy US Marshall with the US Marshall Service, Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Gus Krausse and finally as Deputy Constable for Cameron County until 1997.
Roy had may many lifetime accomplishments some of which included: 32 Scottish Rite Freemason for over 50 years, recognized member of Mensa for over 25 years, and a Master Texas Peace Officer.
As accomplished as Roy was, he made friends with the humblest of people and admired the most brilliant. Due to his insatiable thirst for knowledge, he was an avid reader and could be found at the Brownsville Public Library on any given day. He loved family, friends, fishing, and target shooting. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew and loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Williams Sr. of Rockdale, TX.
Roy is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary I. Williams his daughter, Jeanette W. Chris Monteclaros his sons, James Diana Williams, and John Dora Williams five grandsons: Matthew James Williams, Sean Patrick Haugh, John David Williams Jr., James Jimmy Williams Jr. and Ashton Michael Williams his loving sister, Joan Leroy Pratt and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2011 in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens. The American Legion Post 43 Funeral Honor Guard under the direction of Commander Raul Leal will conduct military honors at the graveside.
