Ret. Police Capt. Ruben S. Garcia Sr., 87, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 17, 2014, at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas.
Born in San Benito, Ruben was a lifetime resident of Brownsville. He joined the Brownsville Police Dept. at 21 and served a record 42 and a half years before retiring in 1991. Ruben was also a lifetime parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, and was especially proud of the fact that he was the first child baptized there.
Ruben is preceded in death by his parents, Maria de Jesus Chucha and Manuel Garcia his first wife, Luz. G. Lucy Garcia and two daughters: Lydia Pearl Poe Garcia and Janey Ybarra.
Ruben is survived by his wife of 21 years, Martha Fuentes Garcia a son, Ruben S. Nellie Garcia Jr. two daughters, Maria Cristina Miguel Gonzalez and Loraine G. Kevin Knoch 8 grandsons, 4 granddaughters, 16 greatgrandchildren with one on the way, 1 greatgreatgrandson with 1 on the way and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 19th and continue through 4:00 p.m. at DarlingMouser Funeral Home. Visitation will resume at 5:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1200 Lincoln, where a rosary service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20th at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. Military rites will be conducted by Mr. Raul Leal and the American Legion Honor Guard in conjunction with full police honors rendered by members of the Brownsville Police Department.
Rubens grandchildren are honored to serve as his pallbearers.
