Ruy P Gomez

Ruy P. Gomez, 89, our beloved brother, uncle, and friend, entered into the glory of his eternal life on Wednesday, February 08, 2012 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas surrounded by his loving family.

Ruy was born in Alice, Texas in 1922, a descendant of a pioneer Alice ranching family. Ruy was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country during WW II, where he was awarded a Silver Medal for his service while in Austria, France, and Germany.

After his military service, Ruy attended Texas A I University in Kingsville where he received a BS degree in Agriculture. After graduation, he joined the USDA where he worked for a number of years mostly in Mexico. Upon retirement he returned to Alice where he managed the familys ranch. Ruy was an avid horseman and horse lover. Ruy was greatly loved and will be profoundly missed by all those whose lives he touched.

Ruy was preceded in death by his parents, Arturo and Elvira Gomez his brothers, Hector and Arturo Gomez Jr. and a sister, Viola Gomez Dolan.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of him are his three sisters, Lamar Ralph Flores, Sylvia E. Gomez, and Judith G. Aaron Saenz a sisterinlaw, Diana G. Gomez and numerous nieces and nephews who were like his own children and other extended family members. His final years were spent in Brownsville, Texas, where he was cared for by his niece, Carla Saenz Martinez, and various caretakers.

Visitation and a chapel service were held on Thursday, February 9th at DarlingMouser Funeral Home in Brownsville, Texas. There will be a Memorial Mass celebrating Ruys life at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February11th at St. Josephs Catholic Church, 801 S. Reynolds St., Alice, TX, with private internment to follow.

In lieu of flowers, Ruys family is requesting that memorial gifts in his name be made to Guadalupe Regional Middle School, 1214 Lincoln St., Brownsville, Texas 78521.
