Santos D. Zavala

Santos D. Zavala, 79, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle entered into the glory of his eternal life on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018, at Valley Regional Medical Center with his family by his side.

Santos, who was born in Bishop, Texas, was a longtime resident of Brownsville. Santos worked with TX DoT for 41 years where he worked in several capacities. At TX DoT he was considered a "Jack of All Trades". At the time of his retirement, Santos was working in Payroll/Bookkeeping for TX DoT.

Santos was an avid Dallas Cowboys Fan. On Sundays during football season, Santos was cheering on ‘Da Boys". He truly bled Blue and Silver. Santos was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by his family and friends but by all those fortunate to have known him.

Santos is preceded in death by parents, Julia and Marcos Zavala; a sister, Teresa and 3 brothers: Elpidio, Eusebio, and Alberto.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of Santos is his loving and devoted wife of 59 years: Maria Alicia Garza Zavala; his son, Alejandro (Susie) Zavala and his daughter, Belinda (Jose) Garza; the 5 grandchildren that were the apple of his eye: Jeremy, Justin, Jennifer, Ana, and Jonathan; and the 10 great-grandchildren that further added to his joy. Santos will also be missed by his siblings: Irene (Sergio) Rodriguez, Francisco, Marcos (Ida), and Arturo (Martha) along with numerous nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family members.

Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, and continue through 9:00 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser. The Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 22, 2018, at San Pedro Catholic Church in San Pedro, Texas. Committal services will follow at Alejandro Garza Cemetery, 10276 US Hwy 281.

Since Santos was such an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, the family asks those attending either service to please wear anything that is Dallas Cowboys related: t-shirts, jerseys, caps etc.
