Sara Klahn Hidalgo died on February 4, 2015 in Round Rock, Texas, at the age of 92, surrounded by her loving children and just four months following the death of her husband of 63 years, Boris V. Hidalgo
Sara was born to Henry James Klahn and Francisca Garza Klahn in May, 1922, in Brownsville, Texas. She graduated from Brownsville High School and attended Texas Southmost College. Prior to marriage, she worked as an executive secretary for Pan American Airways and for the Brownsville Housing Authority.
In 1951, she married Boris V. Hidalgo, and together, they had 5 children.
She resided in Brownville for most of her life. For a few short years, she moved with her husband to Laredo and then to McAllen, Texas, where Boris worked as a US Border Patrol agent. They soon returned to Brownsville where Boris joined the US Customs Service and would eventually rise to the position of District Intelligence Officer for the US Customs' South Texas region. They remained in Brownsville to raise their five children and until Boris' retirement. In 2009, Sara and her husband moved to Round Rock, Texas, to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Sara will be remembered as a kind, sweet and devoted wife and mother who was dearly loved and admired by all who knew her. Through quiet example and a generous heart, she taught her children the importance of family and of kindness to others.
She was predeceased by her husband, Boris V. Hidalgo; her parents, Henry James Klahn and Francisca Garza Klahn; her brother, Sabas Klahn; sisters: Ana Klahn Zarate, Margarita Klahn Rodriguez, and Dolores Klahn Leandro; and by her granddaughter, Analisa Hidalgo.
Sara is survived by her 5 children: Boris A. (Norma) Hidalgo of Kingwood, Texas, Sara A. Van Dusen of Harker Heights, Texas, Cynthia A. (Carlos) Rodriguez of Coppell, Texas, Judith A. "Judy"� (Joaquin) Hinojosa of Round Rock, Texas, and Henry J. "Rick" Hidalgo of The Colony, Texas; 12 grandchildren: Marc D. (Anne) Hidalgo, Melinda E. (Kyle) North, Joshua K. (Isabella) Van Dusen, Nicolas D. (Marissa) Rodriguez, Victor A. (Rachel) Rodriguez, Briana C. Rodriguez, Lisa N. Hinojosa, Aaron J. Hinojosa, Kevin T. Hinojosa, Christopher R. Hidalgo, Michael A. Hidalgo, and Stephen J. Hidalgo; and 4 great-granddaughters: Sienna K. Van Dusen, Emilia L. Van Dusen, Harper R. Hidalgo and Hayden G. Hidalgo; her younger brother and sister-in-law, Jose E. "Rico"� and Concepcion "Chita"� Klahn; sister-in-laws, Xochitl Vega Hidalgo and Concepcion "Conchita"� Klahn; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews in the extended Hidalgo, Klahn, Zarate, Rodriguez, Leandro, Vega and Lopez families.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2015, with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday evening in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 1200 Lincoln St, Brownsville, TX, 78521. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Pallbearers will include Sara's grandsons: Marc D. Hidalgo, Christopher R. Hidalgo, Nicolas D. Rodriguez, Victor A. Rodriguez, Aaron J. Hinojosa and Kevin T. Hinojosa. Honorary pallbearers include additional grandsons: Joshua K. Van Dusen, Michael A. Hidalgo and Stephen J. Hidalgo, her brother, Jose. E. "Rico"� Klahn, and nephews, Dr. Joe Rodriguez, Temo Rodriguez, Joe Ray Rivera, and Gerardo "Jerry" Luna.
