Sarah Sarita Fabra Vicars, 80, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister entered into the glory of her eternal life on Monday, June 2, 2008 at Valley Regional Medical Center with her loving husband by her side. She was born on Sept. 2, 1927, the daughter of Myra and Hilmer Fabra.
Sarita was an amazing spirited woman full of faith, joy and inner strength. She was a devoted wife and mother who enjoyed gardening, floral design, oil painting, cooking, entertaining, traveling, and civic involvement. She was a member of Charro Days for over 45 years serving in various capacities of float and decorations design and a prestigious Honorary Life Director. As the wife of the Mayor of Brownsville, she served as Brownsvilles First Lady from 1955-1959. She was a recipient of numerous awards and ribbons for her fresh flower and dried arrangements as a member of the West Brownsville Garden Club. She was actively involved in the Ebony Heights Elementary School and Stell Junior High School PTA programs during the active parental years for her children, Janice and Buster. She was a primary participant in the Health 2 You program promoting healthy lifestyles throughout the community.
Sarita is predeceased by her parents, Myra Raymond Fabra and Hilmer Fabra; her daughter, Janice Lee Vicars Verner; a sister, Myra Fabra Friedmann, and a brother, Raymond Fabra.
Left behind to eternally treasure her memory are her husband of 61 years, Margal Miles Vicars Sr. of Brownsville; a son, Margal Miles Buster Vicars Jr. of Brownsville; one grandson, Jayson Scott Verner of Austin; one granddaughter, Shelley Kristen Verner of Dallas; her brother, Chester Arthur Fabra Cathy of Houston; her brother-in-law R.J. Sonny Friedmann of Little Rock, Arkansas; four nephews, Kyle Fabra of Houston; Trey Freidmann, Curt Friedmann, and Karl Friedmann, all of Little Rock, Arkansas.

The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, 2008, with a Prayer Service to be held at 7:30 p.m. in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 6, 2008, in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Honored to be serving as pallbearers will be Billy J. Maxwell, J. Michael Eckert, Michael T. Puckett, Robert Bobby Lerma, Paul Hemphill, and Robert Bob Vezzetti.
Honorary pallbearers are Dominic Guerra, Arthur Fabra, R. J. Sonny Friedmann Jr., Dr. Lee Dale Jones, Dr. Juan Martinez, and Jayson Scott Verner.
Since her childhood, Sarita was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brownsville. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 26 W. Levee St., Brownsville, TX 78520.
