Severino Sáenz, Jr.

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Severino Sáenz, Jr., dedicated educator, of Brownsville, Texas, passed away on Saturday, the 30th of April 2022 in the comfort of his Brownsville residence surrounded by his family. He was eighty-two years of age.

Severino was born in Santa Elena, Texas on February 9, 1940, son of the late Severino Sáenz, Sr. and Eloisa García Sáenz. He graduated from San Isidro High School in 1959 as Valedictorian and went on to Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas where he received his Bachelor’s degree in secondary education with a major in Biology and a minor in Health and Physical Education. Severino later attended East Texas State University in Commerce, Texas and received his Master’s degree in Broadfield Science. He also attended Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas where he received his Master’s degree in Biology, Master’s degree in Education, mid-management certification, his superintendent certification, and lastly, his supervision certification.

Severino was employed as a teacher in the San Diego Independent School District for nine years. He moved to Brownsville, Texas in 1972 and was employed with the Brownsville Independent School District for twenty-eight years as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal.

Severino enjoyed jogging and walking, gardening, cooking, and reading, especially about financial business, sports world, health and medicine, and science in general. He also enjoyed playing board games with his family.

Preceding Severino in death were his parents, Severino Sáenz, Sr., and Eloisa G. Sáenz; and his brother, Manuel Sáenz (Ana Maria+).

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife of thirty-five years, Yolanda G. Sáenz; his children Ana Lisa Ramirez, David Anthony Sáenz, and Melissa Diane Sáenz; his brother, Ruben Sáenz (Olga); his sister-in-law, Elvia Garza; and his brothers-in-law, Emiliano Garza, Jr. (Manuela Alicia) and Avelardo Cuevas (Olga+). He is also survived by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, the 5th of May 2022 between the hours of one o’clock in the afternoon and nine o’clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at seven o’clock Thursday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ten o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 6th of May 2022 at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 1055 Military Road, Brownsville. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are David Anthony Sáenz, Oscar Eduardo Garza, Eduardo Alejandro Garza, Dr. Daniel Emiliano Garza, Irvin Martínez, and Chad Garza.
