On April 17, 2013, Sherryl Lynn Schriefer, 68, left this life to be with our Lord and her parents in the Kingdom of Heaven. Sherryl was born to Paul and Della Schriefer in Hammond, Indiana.
Born with cerebral palsy, she led a productive and joyful life with love and support from her parents and older sister Judy. In an era where most handicapped children were institutionalized, Sherryl was raised and educated by her loving family who were instrumental in founding an artbased workshop for handicapped children in the Hammond area.
Following the death of her beloved father, Sherryl and her mother moved to Brownsville, Texas, to be closer to her sister Judy and her family. Here, she spent many hours reading to her young nieces and nephew and faithfully attending Faith Presbyterian Church. In fact, her faith in our Lord inspired everyone who knew her. Her infectious smile was welcomed everywhere she wentespecially at the Brownsville Art League which she attended daily with her mother.
Sherryl was preceded in death by her parents Della and Paul Schriefer and her Aunts, Mary Doak and Clarice Wanashko. She will be missed by her surviving relatives: sister, Judith Ann Berry and her husband Richard, nieces: Annette Tierney and husband Tom, Diane Lynn Koenig and husband Byron, Karen Berry Bell and husband Robert, and nephew, Brian William Berry and wife Tracy.
The family wished to thank the Atrium Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Harlingen, Texas, for the loving care and comfort they gave Sherryl in the last years of her life on earth.
In accordance with Sherryls wishes she was cremated. Her ashes will be laid to rest beside her parents at a private ceremony in Warrensburg, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Sherryls name to the United Cerebral Palsy Organization at www.ucp.orgdonate.
