Simon Rubinsky, 81, passed away unexpectedly at his home on December 24, 2009. He was born in Saltillo, Mexico on December 7, 1928 to Joseph and Betty Rubinsky. Simon immigrated to Brownsville with his family as a young boy and graduated from Brownsville High School in 1947. He attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated in 1951, where he was a member of the Tau Delta Phi fraternity, the Silver Spurs, the Daily Texan and numerous other organizations. Simon returned to Brownsville and established a number of businesses, including NoMis Communications, which served the Rio Grande Valley for over 30 years. He was an active member of the community, serving on the Board of Trustees of the Brownsville Independent School District, the Board of Commissioners of the Brownsville Housing Authority and the Convention and Visitors Bureau. He was also a long-time member and served on the Board of Directors of Temple Beth-El. Simon was an active outdoorsman and a pilot and most loved spending time with his family and dogs. He is survived by the love of his life, Guerta, to whom he was married for over 50 years, and his children, Nina, Melanie and her long-time partner, Javier Solis, and Abrey and his wife, Lisa, and his grandchildren, Adam and Alana. Simon was also fortunate to have the devoted service and friendship of Carlota Limon for almost 50 years. Simon also leaves behind his loyal and trusted four-legged companion, Yofi. Simon was laid to rest on December 25, 2009. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Alzheimers Association, local animal shelters, or the charity of your choice.
