Soledad Villarreal de de Pea, 94, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother entered into the glory of her eternal life on Friday, November 30, 2007 at Spanish Meadows Nursing Home.
A native of Montemorelos, N. L., Mexico, Soledad came to the United States during the Mexican Revolution. Her parents sent her to live in San Diego, Texas with her great aunt Paula Garcia de Palacios. She graduated in 1932 and was the Valedictorian of her class. It was in San Diego, TX that she met, fell in love with, and married Fernando de Pea, Sr.
They moved to Brownsville in 1963. Soledad worked for the BISD as a paraprofessional at Skinner Elementary, where she worked under Virginia Garcia and David Espurvoa. Soledad served the children of our community for 15 years. She was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association as well as the local unit.
Soledad was an avid reader. She also enjoyed listening to the music of Augustin Lara.
Chole as she was called by her great-grandchildren will be dearly missed by all her family and friends.
Soledad was preceded in death by her husband, Fernando de Pea, Sr., her parents, and her siblings.
Left behind to eternally treasure her memory is her son Fernando Jr. and his wife Graciana Saenz de Pena, from Brownsville; her daughter, Maria Antonia and her husband Adolfo Montemayor from Alice, TX; 7 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews among them her very close nieces: Adriana Lambreton de Canales, from San Antonio, TX; Beatriz Lambreton de Alanis, Elva Teresa Lambreton de Rodriguez, and Maria Concepcion Lambreton de Marcos, and Maria Ester Macias Villarreal all from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
Visitation will begin at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007 and continue through 9 p.m. this evening in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. The recitation of the holy rosary will be at 7 Sunday evening. The Mass of Resurrection will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 3, 2007 at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
Her grandsons Adolfo, Orlando, and Miguel Montemayor, Eusebio Salinas Hernandez, Oscar Cantu, Jr., and Oscar Cavazos are honored to be serving as Soledads pallbearers. Alfred Ortiz, Alonzo Ayala, Medardo Barbosa, Ramon Hinojosa, Jr., Jose Dan Casas, David Espurvoa, Raul Mancias and her five great-grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial gifts in Soledads name be made to the Brownsville Public Library, 2600 Central Blvd., Brownsville, Texas 78520.
