Sulema R. Zrate, 68, beloved mother, grandmother, and sister entered into the glory of her eternal life on Monday, January 7, 2008 at Solara Hospital in Brownsville with her loving family by her side.
Sulema was born in El Ranchito on August 12, 1939 to Hernan Juan and Manuela Rodriguez who preceded her in death. She worked as a Social Security Service Representative for over 30 years before retiring in December of 1997.
Sulema was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, and grandmother. She was an amazing woman full of faith, joy, and inner strength. She loved going out and having a good time. She enjoyed playing Chalupa and Poker. Sulema had a wonderful sense of humor and everyone enjoyed being around her and spending time with her. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all those fortunate to have known her.
Sulema has now joined her beloved husband of 47 years who preceded her in death, Norberto A. Zrate and two brothers, Tomas G. Rodriguez and Hernan J. Rodriguez, Jr.
Left behind to eternally treasure her memory are the five children that were her pride and joy, Diana Z. De La Garza, from Brownsville, Noe N. Zrate from San Antonio, TX, Oscar O. Lupita Zrate, from Brownsville, Norma Z. Gilbert Salazar from Brownsville, and Patricia Z. Rene Rodriguez from San Benito; her beloved grandchildren, Patricia J.D. Valles, Brianna N. Zarate, Samantha M., Gilbert Jr., Juan Pablo, and Sabrina M. Salazar; Victor H. Cortez, Jr., Christopher P., Alexandra R. and Andrea R. Rodriguez; her sister, Dora R. Modesto Borrego, her brother, Juan H. Maria Rodriguez; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 8, 2007 in the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser and continue through 9 p.m. with the recitation of the holy rosary at 7 p.m. this evening. The Mass of Resurrection will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at St. Lukes Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Ave., Brownsville. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Noe and Oscar Zrate, Gilbert Salazar, Rene Rodriguez, J. D. Valles, Victor Cortez, Jr.,Gilbert Salazar, Jr., and Juan Pablo Salazar are honored to be serving as Sulemas pallbearers. Juan G. Rodriguez and Modesto Borrego will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family would like to extend their most sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Sulemas doctors and the staff at Solara Hospital Brownsville for all the kindness, compassion, and tender care that was shown to them and their beloved mother while she was in their care. Special thanks to her caregivers, Gema, Norma, and Marta.
