BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Susan “Sue” Elizabeth Sharp of Rancho Viejo, Texas passed away at her home on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at the age of 79.
She was born on November 21, 1941 to Francis Hill Smith and Laura Louella (Frazier) Smith in Washington, D.C. Sue grew up in Beaver City, Nebraska where she attended elementary school and some high school. She received her GED from Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas, and then received her Licensed Practical Nurses license (LPN) from Colby Community College.
She married Lyle E. Hutchens of Hendley, Nebraska on July 25, 1959 and to that union had two children, Mark Derren and Dana Marie. She later divorced and then married William “Bill” T. Sharp of Norton, Kansas on August 27, 1985. After Bill’s death she then married John Dunkle of Rancho Viejo, Texas on August 1, 2009.
She loved woodworking, collecting and refinishing antiques, guns and shooting, costume making for the Camille Playhouse, and traveling the world. She was a mother, wife, nurse, pilot, scuba diver, daredevil, musician, poet, seamstress, and craft maker.
Sue was preceded in death by her biological father, Francis; her mother, Laura; and step-father, Clifford Clements; her step sister, Deanna, and half-sister, Ruth Marie; and by her husbands, Bill Sharp and John Dunkle.
She is survived by her two children, Mark Hutchens of Beaver City, Nebraska and Dana (Hutchens) Paxton of Norton, Kansas; her first husband, Lyle Hutchens; her three sisters, Carol Ann Sweeney of Denver, Colorado, Jo Webb of Beaver City, Nebraska, and Mary Margaret Rozanski of Silver Spring, Maryland; and brother, Wayne Frazier Clements of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; two step-sons, Jim (Lida) Sharp of Norton, Kansas and Tom (Maya) Sharp of Houston, Texas; three step-daughters, Colette (Mick) Miller of Norton, Kansas, Jane Warren, and Evelyn (Rick) Heilbrunn; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren with one more on the way, as well as many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
A Catholic Mass will be celebrated at Our Heavenly Father Catholic Church in Olmito, Texas at 4:00 P.M. on Friday, April 30, 2021.
As per her final wishes, cremation was held and her cremated remains will be returned to Norton, Kansas.
In lieu of flowers, it is asked that donations be made payable to The Sharp Scholarship Fund, 6882 Tenaza Drive, Brownsville, Texas 78526.
