Sylvia Estela Terán-Fraga Garza

Sylvia Estela Terán-Fraga Garza, 79 years of age, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loved ones on June 4, 2016.

Sylvia was born on April 27, 1937 in Brownville, Texas to the late Juan and María Terán. She was the oldest of 9 children of whom seven have preceded her in death.

Sylvia graduated from Brownsville High School in 1955.

She attended Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas. She worked for many years for the PUB in Brownsville and then worked for BISD at Hanna High School as the records clerk and later became the Principal's secretary. She also worked at Lopez High School as the Principal's secretary and retired in 2000.

She loved working and was very proud of her "Eagles" and "Lobos". She loved helping others and spending time with her co-workers.

Sylvia married the late Carlos Garza, Sr. in 1958 and four children were born from this union.

Sylvia professed her life to Christ and cherished praising our Lord. Sylvia loved to read her bible, praying for and with others, spending time with family, laughing and always wearing a smile on her face. She was a loving and caring person, devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend always thinking of others first. "To know her was to love her."

The family wants to thank Flor Becerra, who assisted our brother Carlos and his wife Sylvia during our mom's last 5 years. She loved our mom unconditionally and made sure she was taken care of and was always comfortable.

The family extends our heartfelt gratitude for the unconditional love and care that our brother Carlos and his wife Sylvia showed for our mother.

Sylvia leaves her children to cherish her loving memory, Anna M. Garza (Neal Vredevelt), Norma N. Garza-Hill (Keith Hill), Carlos Garza, Jr. (Sylvia Garza), and David R. Garza (Nelda Garza); 9 grandchildren, Sonya, Keith, Katie, Robert (Desiree), Candice (Esteban), Laura (Salvador), Carlos III (Flor), Karla and Kelli; 6 great-grandchildren, Gabi Jo, Robert Carlos, Anthony, Nicolas, Chloe, and Baby Sal.

Services will be held on Tuesday June 7, 2016 at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home. Interment will be on June 8, 2016 at Buena Vista Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Robert Alviar, Jr., Carlos Garza III, Salvador Dominguez, Esteban Saldivar, Roberto Carlos Alviar, Keith Alan Hill, Jr., and Richard Hinojosa.

It was her wish that her friends serve as her pallbearers. For that reason the following are named honorary pallbearers: Hilda Perez, Gracie Pineda, Amelia Von Hatton, and Olga Serna.

The family of Sylvia Garza wishes to acknowledge Christian Discipleship Outreach/Centro Cristiano Disipulado for their prayers, support and outreach for over twenty years.

"In life we loved you dearly. In death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you. You did not go alone, for part of us went with you on the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories. Your love is still our guide. And though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again."
