BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Tomas Garcia, 88, our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend peacefully entered into the glory of his eternal life on Friday, the 13th of December 2024, in Brownsville, Texas

Tomas was a lifetime resident of Brownsville.

His journey through life was one marked by hard work, dedication, and a deep love for his family and friends. Tomas began his career as a teenager, earning his certification as a barber while still in high school. Throughout school, he worked at his family-owned barber shop on Jefferson Street, alongside his father and two brothers. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he served honorably before returning to education at the University of Texas. There, he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. With a passion for teaching, Tomas began his distinguished career at Brownsville Independent School District as both a coach and teacher. Later, he transitioned to a career with U.S. Customs, where he served as a Supervisory Inspector and retired after 30 years of dedicated services.

Tomas never met a stranger and forged lasting friendships across the world. He was an avid golfer, a proud supporter of the University of Texas Longhorns, and a devoted member of the Masonic and Shriner communities. Throughout his tireless efforts, Tomas raised thousands of dollars for Masonic scholarships, organizing golf tournaments and working at their Sombrero Fest booths. Despite his many achievements, he found his greatest joy in the company of his children and grandchildren, who were the center of his world.

Tomas was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known him.

Tomas was preceded in death by his parents, Celso and Fortunata Garcia; his brother, Daniel Garcia; and by his beloved wife of 50 years, Blanca Cavazos Garcia.

He is survived by his three children Adrianna Laura Justis, Mark Edward Garcia (Gracie), and Carlos Alberto Garcia (Jennifer). He leaves behind his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Austin Justis (Nikki), Parker Justis (Kiley), Briana Garcia, Harrison Justis, Alessandra Garcia, Reagan Justis, and Thomas Garcia. He is also survived by numerous extended family members.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to his devoted caregivers, Sandra and Perla. There are no words that can ever express our appreciation for the exceptional care you provided to him and the compassion and support you gave us as a family. We will forever be grateful to you both.
