Tomas Leal Sr., 88, died in San Antonio, on Saturday, April 20, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.
Tomas, was a native of Brownsville, Texas, where he lived most of his life. Mr. Leal retired from the City of Brownsville in 1986 after 28 years of service. He dedicated his life to community service and was involved as the President of the East Brownsville Little League; Board of Directors of the Boy Scouts of America of Brownsville; PTA President at J.T. Canales Elementary School; President of the City Council of PTAs; President of the Porter High School Band Boosters; Committee member of the Porter ELPAC(for special needs students); a food distribution volunteer; Auxiliary Volunteer at Brownsville Medical Center; Board of Directors of the Christ the King Church.
Tomas was an avid deer hunter and loved fishing and was a die-hard Dallas Cowboy fan. He was a devoted husband, father, son, uncle and friend who earned the respect and love of all. He was known for his wisdom and ‘consejos' to his family, friends and those he mentored. His sense of humor and quick wit made him an easy person to talk to and be with; he was an engaging person with a love of life and a positive outlook regardless of any challenges or difficulties. Tomas will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
Tomas was preceded in death by his loving wife, Yolanda Campos Leal; his parents, Gertrudes and Melquiades Leal; 3 sisters: Tomasa L. Martinez, Teresa L. Rodriguez, and Aurora L. Cavazos; and 3 brothers: Juan, Miguel, and Pablo Leal.
Tomas is survived by his children, Tomas, Jr. (Jose Cox) of Philadelphia PA, Ernesto (Frances), Hector (Ana), Miguel (Mary Helen), Estela Leal (Margaret Salas) all of San Antonio; a brother P.A. Beto Leal of Brownsville. He has 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, as well as, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will begin at 3:00 p.m. and continue through 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, with the recitation of the holy rosary scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. The Funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2018, at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 2800 Rockwell Ave. Committal services will follow at Buena Vista Burial Park. The VFW Funeral Honor Guard will render military honors
at the graveside.
Ernesto Leal, Hector Leal Sr., Miguel Leal Sr., Gabriel Ernesto Leal, Hector Leal Jr., and Miguel Leal Jr. are honored to be serving as Tomas' pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be: P.A. "Beto" Leal, Melquiades De La Rosa, Robert Mota Jr., and Dr. Ruben Gallegos.
