Vida Belle Jagou

Vida Belle Morris Jagou died on Wednesday, December 15, 2010 in Brownsville, Texas at the age of 102. She was born on January 4, 1908 in Little River County, Arkansas to Dr. James F. and Nola Weaver Morris. Her family moved to Harlingen in the late 1920s where she attended Business College and also Brownsville Junior College. In 1941 she married Louis Adolphe Dukie Jagou a 3rd generation pioneer family from France. She worked for Western Union and also for the Brownsville Herald in advertising followed by 18 years at Alamo Iron Works in the accounting department 18 years at the Den Russ Post Office on Elizabeth Street.
Vida was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church until 1973 but moved her membership to Church of the Advent Episcopal her husbands church and was confirmed by the
Rev. Rufus Stewart. She was a member of the Altar Guild and the Cascarones Club for many years. Late in life she started painting and became an active member of the Brownsville Art League. Vida Belle loved gardening and had a beautiful lush tropical yard on a resaca.
Vida was preceded in death by her husband Dukie, her parents Dr. Mrs. J. F. Morris, brothers Louie G.Gladys Morris, J. Runyan Ann Morris, J. Mayo Lila Morris, Dale F. Georgie Morris, and Lt. Col. Reedis Morris and brother inlaw George Pletcher. She is survived by her only sister Rachel M. Pletcher of Harlingen, Nieces Linda Pletcher Sidney Broyles and Vicki Pletcher Larry Galbreath of Harlingen, Allyce Pletcher Bullock of St. Louis, Frankie Joe Hill of San Antonio, Lorraine GeraldMorris Lapan, Herndon, Va. and Joan NestorMorris Ramirez of Miami Nephew, Blake Irene Morris, of Harlingen and a special sisterinlaw Elizabeth Morris, of Melbourne, Fla. numerous great and great great nieces and nephews and a very special friend Zito B. Kare of Brownsville.
A graveside service will be held Monday, 2 p.m. at the historic Old City Cemetery in Brownsville at the Jagou Mausoleum with the Rev. Maurice L. Friedman officiating. Family and friends are invited to attend. Those desiring so may contribute to their favorite charity.
