BROWNSVILLE, TX. - Virginia S. Diaz entered into eternal rest on Friday, the 23rd of February 2024 in the comfort of her Brownsville residence surrounded by her loving husband and family after a courageous eighteen year battle with cancer. She was seventy-seven years of age.
Virginia was born in Matamoros, Mexico on May 21, 1946, daughter of the late Candelario Salinas and Guadalupe Cerda Salinas, and for most of her life, lived in Brownsville, Texas where she obtained her U.S. citizenship. She was a beloved wife and mother, and a devoted grandmother. Primarily a housewife and provider, Virginia was also an Avon Sales Lady for twenty years. Her favorite pastimes included playing lottery, making tamales, attending to her beautiful garden, and her love for feeding and watching the birds bathe in the bird bath.
Preceding Virginia in death were her parents, Candelario Salinas and Guadalupe Cerda Salinas, and her sister, Elvira Salinas.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Francisco G. Diaz; her children Hector Esquivel (Yolanda), Leticia Diaz, Virginia Diaz, Francisca Arellano (Raul), Alejandro Diaz (Cecilia), and Rowdy, her loving Chihuahua; her grandchildren Hector Esquivel, Jr., Gabriela Esquivel, Daniel Esquivel, Kristian Vasquez, Damian Vasquez, Kasandra Vasquez, Mia Isabella Silguero, Natalie Nicole Arellano, Patricio Arellano, Alejandro Diaz, Jr., and Alynna Marie Diaz; her great-grandson, Marc Allen Rodriguez; and her siblings Juan Salinas (Guadalupe), Candelario Salinas, Guadalupe Salinas (Marina), Bertha Salinas Sanchez, and Jose Angel Salinas (Alicia).
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, the 28th of February 2024 between the hours of one o’clock in the afternoon and nine o'clock at night, with the recitation of the holy rosary to begin at six o'clock Wednesday evening within the East Chapel of Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.
A Chapel Service will be held at twelve noon on Thursday, the 29th of February 2024. Interment will then follow, via an escorted procession, at Buena Vista Burial Park, 5 McDavitt Boulevard, Brownsville.
