Virginia P. Rodriguez

BROWNSVILLE, TX. – Virginia P. Rodriguez, 99, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, entered into the glory of her eternal life and earned her wings on Monday, the 17th of January 2022, in Brownsville, Texas surrounded by her loving family. Her zeal and love of life was always within her. “I have fought the good fight. I have finished the race. I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7.

Virginia was born in Saltillo, Mexico, moving shortly after to Brackettville, Texas and receiving her U.S. citizenship through her father’s military service with the U.S. Army in Fort Clark. Virginia married Alfonso B. Rodriguez in 1942, spanning sixty-seven years of marriage together until his death in 2010. Since the late 1940’s, Virginia has been a lifelong resident of Brownsville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfonso B. Rodriguez; parents, Rodrigo and Cecilia Perez; and siblings Hortencia Rios, Evangelina Hidalgo, Carlos Perez, and Rodrigo Perez.

Left behind to eternally treasure her memory are her three children Alfonso (Cecilia) Rodriguez Jr., Stella (Rolando) Diaz, and Anna (Frank X.) Lopez; seven grandchildren Dianne (Aric) Escue, Lori (Mike) Robinett, Virginia (Miguel) Sias, Alfonso Rodriguez III, Dr. Rolando (Dr. Rebecca) Diaz Jr., Jesus X. (Dania) Lopez, and Verna Lopez; fourteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Lupita Ramirez and Aurora Bartlett; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Virginia worked several years with Texas Employment Commission and the Cameron County Health Department in Brownsville. One of her favorite hobbies was sewing and making hand-crafted dolls with clothing accessories. Her passion for creativity for this talent was well known by many.

Virginia was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church. A special gratitude is extended to Fox Hollow Post Acute, especially DON Mora and all the staff members who treated her with love, compassion, and dignity. Virginia was given the honor of being selected by the staff members as the first, “Fox Hollow’s Sweetheart,” on Valentine’s Day 2017.

Mom, you were such a character that words cannot give you justice. You were the epitome of loyalty, dependability, and honesty. You helped many without hesitation or expectations. You were always kind and loving to all who knew you. You will always be the most influential person in our lives. Mom, there are no goodbyes for us. Wherever you are, you will always be in our hearts.
