Walter "Dick" Richard Hager

Walter Richard Dick Hager was born on January 7, 1927 to Mildred and Walter Hager in Meadville, PA. He died on Friday, August 19, 2011 at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX.

Dick graduated from Broward High School in Florida. He served in the U. S. Navy in World War II and was in the V12 program and the NROTC. He graduated from the University of Mississippi where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity, with a degree in Civil Engineering. He received a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Texas in Austin. He held a Professional Engineering License in the State of Pennsylvania and was a Diplomat of the American Academy of Sanitary Engineers.

Dick worked as an Engineer and Public Administrator for the Pennsylvania Department of Health, the United States Department of the Interior, and the Environmental Protection Agency. He taught as an Adjunct Professor at George Mason University in Fairfax County, Virginia.

Following his retirement, he enjoyed the game of golf, traveling, and his music. In Rancho Viejo, he served as President of the Rancho Viejo Property Owners Association and was on the Executive Board of the Rancho Viejo Volunteer Fire Department. He was elected to the Board of the Valley Municipal Utility District and served as a Director for 6 years.

Much of his life was spent organizing and playing in Jazz bands. He was an excellent drummer and organized the Valley All Starsa group that gave concerts on Sunday afternoon for eight years at the Harlingen Play House. His collection of Jazz recordings and music is an extensive one. Dick also enjoyed playing the piano.

Preceding him in death are: his parents, Mildred and Walter Hager, a son, Richard H. Hager a granddaughter, Aleesha Hager and a brother, Charles Hager.

Surviving are: his wife of 61 years, Jean Hager daughters, Barbara L. Hager of Little Rock, AR and Katherine H. Gary Mann of Poolesville, MD. Also surviving is a daughterinlaw, Virginia Hager of Plano, TX his grandchildren: Matthew Hager, Libby Greg Conn, Michael Erin Hager, Daniel Hager, Zachary Diana Hager, Mariah Michael Khuu, Timmy Hager, Dasha Hager, Melanie Berman, David Berman, Allison Matthew Sick, Christina Mann, and Steven Mann and his greatgrandchildren: Emily Ellen Conn, Garret Allen Conn, Kylie Hager, Kien Khuu, and Maylinh Khuu.

A Memorial Service is planned for a later date.
