William S. Callaway Jr., 85, entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 1, 2014, at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas.
Bill, as he was known by most, considered himself a native of the Valley having been born in Harlingen and living in Brownsville for a number of years. In his youth, Bill was a devoted son and athlete.
Bill was a proud Army veteran, serving his country in the interim between WW II and the Korean War.
Bill worked at Union Carbide from its inception until it closed. He took great pride in being able to fix anything mechanical. In his spare time, he enjoyed the outdoors and was a sportsman.
Bill was a quite modest man who was a loving husband, father, grandfather, sportsman, and mechanic. He took great pride in his sons accomplishments and daughters children. Bill was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all those fortunate to have known him.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, Myrtle and William S. Callaway Sr.
Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maxine Callaway his children: Dr. William S. Callaway III, PhD, Michael R. Linda Callaway, and Lisa M. Callaway and four grandchildren: Jason Craven, Shelton Hand, Sarina Ramos, and Dylan Poole.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 5, 2014, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the East Chapel at DarlingMouser Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life Service scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
