William Lewis Rentfro entered into the nearer presence of God on Sunday, November 20 2011 at Sunshine Haven, Olmito, Texas. Born in Brownsville on January 31 1958, the son of Lenora and Daniel Rentfro, he was predeceased by his father, Daniel Rentfro Sr., and his grandparents, Robert Byron and Eleanor Russell Rentfro and Lewis Bayard and Gladys H. Going.
Mr. Rentfro received his early education at the Episcopal Day School and Cummings Junior High School. He graduated from Homer Hanna High School a National Merit Scholar in 1975. Mr. Rentfro attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he received Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, and Doctor of Jurisprudence Degrees.
Mr. Rentfro was a practicing attorney in Brownsville and Port Isabel Texas from 1983 to 2011. He will also be remembered for his work with community theaters in Brownsville and Harlingen. He directed The King and I, Death of a Salesman, Godspell, and many other productions, and served on the board of directors of the Camille Playhouse and the Harlingen Country Playhouse.
A lifetime member of the Church of the Advent, Brownsville, he served in many capacities, including as an acolyte, youth basketball coach, and member of the Outreach board.
Mr. Rentfro is survived by his mother, Lenora Going Rentfro his sister Lindsay Rentfro Irwin his brother Daniel Rentfro Jr. and Daniels wife Anne his niece Elizabeth Rentfro his nephews David Irwin, Mark Rentfro, and Bill Irwin and numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be held for William on Wednesday, November 23 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at the Church of the Advent, 104 West Elizabeth Street, Brownsville. A private interment will follow. Friends wishing to remember William are invited to make donations to the Church of the Advent, the Episcopal Day School, or Sunshine Haven.
