William L. "Mr. Bill" Esparza

ROUND ROCK, TX. - William L. “Mr. Bill” Esparza, 70, baseball fanatic and retired middle school teacher, passed away on Tuesday, 1st of February 2022 surrounded by his family.

Mr. Bill was born, raised, and lived most of his wonderful life in Brownsville before moving to Round Rock, Texas. He graduated from Brownsville High in 1969. Then, attended and graduated from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos in 1975.

He began his teaching career at Castañeda Elementary School. After five years, he transferred to Oliveira Middle School where he spent the last thirty-two years teaching Texas and U.S. History before retiring in 2012. He thoroughly enjoyed his years as an educator and actively participated as coach for various sports, such as football, volleyball, basketball, and softball. His love of baseball drew him to serve his community by being a scorekeeper, announcer and overall entertainer at North and West Brownsville Little Leagues, Hanna High School, and at the university level. His other hobby was playing cards on the weekends with friends and the boys (you know who you are). He also had a secret obsession, which not everyone knew, with WWE and would hide for hours reminiscing his glory days in college.

William married and is survived by the love of his life, Patricia “Patty” Piecek. Together, they shared forty-seven years of wedded bliss. He is survived by his two beautiful daughters, Anita (Aaron) and Amy (Tracy). He cherished his time with his wonderful grandchildren Michaela, Mark, Gia, and Rebel. He is also survived by his loving sisters, Annie and Lulu, and his brother, John (Daphne), as well as his beloved extended family and many friends.

Preceding William in death were his parents, Luis and Guadalupe Esparza.

Mr. Bill loved his Houston Astros and Texans, and tolerated the Cowboys. Most importantly, he loved his family and friends. He left his mark on his community with everyone who crossed his path as an educator, mentor, coach, and friend. His smile, charm, and sense of humor will be deeply missed.
