Yolanda Nuñez Gonzalez, 59, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville.
Yola, as she was affectionately known to all, was born in Morelia, Michoacan, Mexico. She came to the United States at the age of 16 and years later became a Naturalized Citizen. Yola and Juan married and raised their family in the Chicago area. In 1999, they moved to the San Pedro Community outside of Brownsville.
Yola had a "green thumb" and so consequently spent a lot of time in her garden tending to her flowers and plants. She was the proud grandmother of 9 and loved spending time not only with them but with all children. They all called her "Mama" as she was a Second Mother to them all.
Yola was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed not only by her family and friends but by all those fortunate enough to have known her.
Yola was preceded in death by her parents, Ernestina M. and Tomas Nuñez.
Yola is survived by her husband of 39 years: Juan G. Gonzalez; the 3 children that were the apple of her eye: Gilberto (Krystal) Gonzalez, Juana N. (Joseph Svehla) Gonzalez, and Mayra (Fernando) Fernandez; and the 9 grandchildren that were her pride and joy: Damian, Aubrie, Leila, Fernando, Nuvia, Iris, Michael, Jordan, and Genesis. Yola will also be missed by her 6 sisters: Lourdes (David) Zavala, Rosa Nuñez, Martha (Luis) Sanchez, Natividad "Nita" (Stephen) Cummings, Ernestina Slinkard, and Xochilt (Carlos) Haro; 4 brothers: Jose (Margie) Nuñez, Juan (Norma) Nuñez, Tomas (Cristine) Nuñez Jr., and Daniel (Razie) Nuñez. Yola will also be missed by several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
